Koch & Co. offers free shipping and returns within India. In case you are not satisfied with the shoes, you can return/exchange them within 30 days from the date you receive them, provided that they are unworn, undamaged and unused.
Goodyear Welted Construction
A welt is a narrow strip of leather stitched to both the upper and the insole. The sole is then stitched to that welt, never to the shoe itself. Three seams do the work that adhesive does in most footwear, which is why a welted shoe holds its shape for years rather than seasons.
Between the insole and the sole sits a layer of cork. It compacts under your weight over the first few weeks until it holds an impression of your foot, and the shoe stops being a generic size and becomes yours.
The method is nearly two centuries old and has not been improved on. It is also slow, which is the honest reason most shoes at this price are not made this way.
Fully Resoleable
Because nothing structural is glued, the sole can be cut away and a new one stitched to the welt without ever disturbing the upper. The part of the shoe that took months to soften to your foot is the part you keep.
A well-kept pair can be resoled several times over its life. The construction is the standard any experienced cobbler works with, so you are not dependent on us to do it — though we are glad to point you to someone if you would rather not choose blindly.
A pair of shoes should not be discarded because the thinnest, cheapest part of it wore out.
Full Grain Leather
Full grain is the outermost layer of the hide with its natural grain left intact — not sanded down and embossed with a printed pattern, which is what "genuine leather" usually means. It is the densest and strongest part of the skin, and the only kind that improves rather than degrades.
It breathes. It softens to the shape of your foot and creases where you walk. Over years the colour deepens unevenly, darker at the flex points and along the toe, into a patina specific to how you wear them. A new pair looks its most uniform on the first day and its best in the fifth year.
Small variations in the grain are the animal's own markings. They are not flaws, and we do not correct them.
Handcrafted in Agra
Every pair is made in our workshop in Agra, where the Kochher family has worked in shoemaking for four generations.
Eight pairs of hands touch each shoe, and each does one thing well: cutting, skiving, brogue-ing, stitching, closing, lasting, welting, finishing.
As our experienced artisan says "A machine can cut leather, but it cannot differentiate between good leather and damaged leather. Only a human eye is capable of this precision and attention to detail."

01 · Construction
Goodyear welted.
Built to be rebuilt.
Every pair we make is Goodyear welted, the most durable form of shoe construction there is. Three careful layers of stitching, anchored by a lockstitch, give the entire structure its firmness.
It also means the shoe can be resoled, again and again. When the sole wears out, the shoe doesn't. That is the difference between footwear that is replaced and footwear that is kept.

03 · The Sequence
Eight stages,
in order.
From a hide of full grain leather to a finished pair, every shoe follows the same sequence it has for four generations.
01
Cutting
The hide is read by eye and cut by hand. Only the cleanest sections make it into a shoe.
02
Skiving
Edges are thinned with precision so that layers of leather join without bulk.
03
Brogue-ing
Decorative perforations are punched one by one, the signature of a true brogue.
04
Stitching
The upper's panels are stitched together with even, unhurried seams.
05
Closing
Upper and lining are united into a single, structured whole.
06
Lasting
The upper is pulled and shaped over the last, where a flat pattern becomes a shoe.
07
Welting
The Goodyear welt is stitched in: three layers of thread, one lockstitch, decades of wear.

Finishing
Edges are dressed, soles burnished, and the leather polished to a depth machines can't reach.
